GENERAL INFORMATION

2010 Program Dates and Times:

Session 1 (Monterey State Beach)
June 7 to July 2
Monday through Friday
9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Session 2 (Asilomar State Beach)
July 12 - August 6
Monday through Friday
9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

2010 Program Locations:

Session 1:
Monterey State Beach
Haughton M. Roberts parking lot off of Sand Dunes Drive in Monterey (just SOUTH of the Monterey Beach Resort).

Session 2:
Asilomar State Beach
Off of Sunset Drive in Pacific Grove at the end of Highway 68 West when you first hit the beach, across from the Asilomar Conference Center (just below main boardwalk access to beach).

Costs:

$400 per child /per session
$375 for each additional student in family
$375 for second session if student is enrolled in both sessions
(Tuition assistance may be available to those who qualify.)

To Qualify:

1. You must be between the ages of 9 and 16
2. YOU MUST PASS A SWIMMING TEST

Tryouts for new junior lifeguards will be at the Monterey Sports Center at 6:00 p.m. on May 23 (session one) and June 27 (session two).

To pass you must be able to:

1. Swim 100 yards continuously (using the freestyle stroke)
2. Swim under water for 10 yards
3. Tread water for 3 minutes

Time standards for the 100 yard swim are as follows:

Ages 9 - 11:
under two minutes and forty seconds
Ages 12 - 13:
under two minutes and thirty seconds
Ages 14 - 17:
under two minutes

Please understand that a child may physically complete all phases of testing and still may not be accepted into the JG program. The Instructors approve a youth's skill level based upon the youth's swimming ability, competence, and confidence. This is done for the safety of the child, as well as the success of the program. Thank you for your understanding.

*All new students must successfully complete the testing process to be eligible for the program.
