THE CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS MONTEREY JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM
This summer, be a part of the action... Become a Monterey Junior Lifeguard!!!
The Monterey Junior Lifeguard Program is a 4-week educational and recreational summer program for children between the ages of 9 and 16. The kids are exposed to a carefully planned schedule of lectures and field trips, balanced with physical conditioning and ocean recreation activities. This unique aquatic class is taught by professional Ocean Lifeguards and several guest lecturers. There are 2 four-week sessions each summer, one at Monterey State Beach and one at Asilomar State Beach.
The boys and girls are introduced to beach and ocean safety, Lifeguarding skills, first aid, CPR, environmental awareness, marine biology, coastal ecology and much, much more. They also learn many of the recreational aspects affiliated with our beaches, such as surfing, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, beach running, open ocean swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing and skin diving, so that they can safely enjoy and appreciate our beautiful, but sometimes dangerous, coastline.
